Yesterday (Sunday) we drove up to the Grand Mesa for Color Sunday. Usually this is the last week of September, but because of a cold and wet spring, the trees are about a week late. So it was a great time to see the aspens turning gold and all of the other beautiful autumn scenery. The Mesa is about a 45 minute drive from our house. It borders the Grand Valley (Grand Junction is in the middle of the valley) on the East.

It sprinkled for a few minutes, so we covered Nate with an umbrella. Later on we had to move it, because he was trying to move it! It is considerably colder on the Mesa, since its more than 5000 ft higher than Grand Junction. So in GJ we are at 4600 ft and the Mesa is about 11000 ft. In Grand Junction is was about 70 degrees and when we left the top of the Mesa we were down to about 42 degrees.
We enjoyed a yummy picnic with a baguette, salami, Irish cheese, Nutella, and fruit.
We made it to Land's End road at the end of the sunset, it was an amazing view. A nice man offered to take a picture of all four of us.
If you look carefully you can see the lights of Grand Junction in the valley.
This was an incredible experience and we look forward to many more picnics on the Mesa!
