A Sunday Drive

This past Sunday we took a nice Sunday drive over Douglas Pass after church.  It was about an hour or hour and a half drive to where we turned around, but we made stops along the way to see old Indian rock paintings, petroglyphs if you will:)  Douglas pass was beautiful itself, lots of color still on the pass which summits at just over 8800 ft.  It was pretty chilly at the top.  We also saw a golden eagle perched on top of a dead deer on the side of the road. That was pretty amazing!

On our way back down, we stopped at the North Fruita Dessert to have a picnic.  This is just before you get back into Loma on Hwy 139. As we were eating, Justin was walking around and found a very old carcass of probably a cow.  The kids thought it was pretty cool!  The view from this spot is amazing, you can see the Mesa, Monument and Bookcliffs coming up all around these dessert valley.

As we drove home the sunset was amazing over the whole valley.  I love this place!

This is one of the paintings, called "waving hands."  I'm pretty sure all the other stuff is "graffiti," people are so lame.  These drawings apparently date back to the 800s-1000s and were done by the Fremont Culture.

These two always prefer to take the hard way down:)

You can barely see the eagle here flying off. We drove by it like 3 times trying to get a good picture, and when we finally did, he was flying off.
